When a tooth becomes cracked or chipped, or develops serious tooth decay, then a dental crown could be necessary. Instead of requiring multiple visits to create and place, we can use the CEREC system to create and place a custom-made restoration. In today’s blog, your Sheridan, WY, dentist talks about securing your new dental crown in one visit.
The Need for a Dental Repair
A dental crown is a strong restoration that covers the entire visible portion of your smile. The restoration is custom-made to ensure a proper fit and a balanced bite, and we also take steps to ensure a more lifelike appearance too. A crown can repair cracked, chipped, or broken teeth, and reshape malformed ones too. We can lengthen worn down tooth structure, improve bite balance and chewing function, and treat more advanced cases of tooth decay, even dental infections. If you have a missing tooth, our team can use one or two crowns to support a dental bridge, or one to restore a single tooth dental implant.
Creating and Placing Custom Restorations
Each one is custom-made and using the CEREC system, they can be crafted and placed in only one visit. To begin, we will numb your tooth so you’re comfortable as we gently remove structure from outside the tooth. Our team will then take detailed images and impressions from multiple angles, and use them to create a 3D impression of the tooth. We unload the information into a milling machine, which then crafts the tooth from ceramic. We use ceramic because the material can handle daily bite forces and is also color matched to blend with your smile. When the restoration is finished, we will check the fit and then attach them with a powerful bonding agent. The entire process takes only one visit!
Dental Bridges
Our team can also employ the CEREC system to create a dental bridge, a prosthetic that consists of one to three new teeth with restorations attached to one or both ends. The prosthetic is again made from ceramic and shaded to blend with your smile. When ready, we will place them onto the abutment teeth, the ones on each side of the gap, which secure your replacement teeth firmly in place. Your bridge can last up to 15 years in some cases!
